    Are you passionate about cats and dogs and enjoy meeting other pet parents?   We are looking for passionate people who are excited to talk about pets, pet nutrition, and specifically Hill’s Science Diet brand pet food.


    The Pet Nutrition Specialist is responsible for actively engaging with pet parents shopping for or with their pets in a pet retail store.  Must be outgoing and inquisitive in order to help pet parents determine which Science Diet product would best meet the nutritional needs of their special pet. 

    The Pet Nutrition Specialist will acquire and maintain a high level of knowledge of Science Diet products, so current use or knowledge of Science Diet brand pet food is a plus.

    In addition to talking with pet parents, duties may also include merchandising and stocking of products as needed.


    • Interacts with and educates shoppers in store on identifying pet nutritional needs.
    • Uses marketing materials to effectively communicate specific nutritional information, product features and benefits of Science Diet.
    • Hand out pet product samples/materials to pet parents and pets in store.
    • Collect shopper feedback to share with Hill’s.
    • Work with store personnel to enhance product knowledge, authenticate inventory and display merchandise.
    • Provide regular feedback to Retail Supervisor as well as client regarding store performance, shopper feedback and store feedback.
    • Assists with preparation for client visits and completes audit corrections.
    • Builds and maintains professional attitude and rapport with store personnel and shoppers, to effectively meet objectives.
    • Additional duties as may be assigned.

    • Previous sales experience in animal health industry
    • Student Veterinary Technician or graduated Registered Veterinary Technician (Animal Health Technician/Technologist) with practice experience
    • English fluency, both written and verbal


    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent


    • 1-3 months previous retail sales experience
    • Previous direct experience with pet(s) and/or pet relationships

    • Has desire and ability to proactively intercept, engage, interact, and sell product to pet parent shoppers and their pets in a positive and enthusiastic manner
    • Demonstrates strong, passionate interest in pet well-being
    • Exhibits a lively, compassionate, engaging attitude
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to empathize and connect with pets and their pet parents
    • Exhibits understanding of appropriate conduct, language, and consumer interaction to maintain Hill’s and the pet retailer’s reputation within the store

     Software / Hardware Requirements and Experience:

    • Must have access to a computer, internet and printer to complete reporting at the end of each shift. 

     Supervision Received:

    • General Supervision: This job receives assignments and is expected to carry them through to completion with substantial independence. Work is reviewed for adherence to instructions, accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standard practice or precedent.

     Travel Requirements:

    • Some travel required 0-10%

    • Per Store Retail Environment

    Additional Requirements:

    • Ability to work in pet stores that have dogs, cats, and other animals in close proximity and willingness and ability to touch the pets
    • The Pet Nutrition Specialist will be regularly required to:
    • Interact with cats and dogs
    • Must be available to work Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
    • Must be able to stand/walk a minimum of 4 hours at a time.
    • Use hands and fingers to handle or feel; Reach with hands and arms (including reaching overhead); Talk and hear; Visual ability to read instructions and perform events; Stoop; Kneel; Crouch;
    • Lift and carry up to 40 pounds (18.1 kilograms)
    • Physical Appearance: Individuals must ensure a professional appearance and proper grooming is in order. The associate must present a neat, clean, and appropriately groomed appearance. Specific dress code requirements are included in the training documents.
    • Language Skills: English is the primary language skill; however bilingual skills may be required based on business necessity and location
